Sit In or Sit Out of Life

I can look back at different times in my life and see where I was sitting it out without even realizing it. I was waiting. Waiting for the right time, for things to settle down, for more confidence or maybe just for some kind of sign that said, “Okay, now you can do it.”

Guess what? That sign never came.

What I finally figured out is that life keeps moving whether you’re participating in it or not. Sitting in doesn’t mean you have it all figured out. Most of the time, I don’t have a clue what I’m doing. It just means you show up anyway.

You take the trip. You make the call. You try something new. You walk away from something that no longer feels right. You say yes when you want to say yes and learn to say no without feeling like you owe everyone an explanation.

Will you screw up? Absolutely. I have made decisions that seemed like a great idea at the time and later thought, “What the hell was I thinking?”

But I’d rather have a few of those stories than spend my life wondering what would have happened if I had just tried.

Life is going to be messy whether you sit in or sit out, so you might as well get in there and live it.

Pull up your big girl panties. Take the chance. Make the mistake. Change your mind. Laugh at yourself and keep going.

Don’t watch your life from the sidelines. Sit in. You might be surprised where it takes you.
