You Don’t Have to Be Perfect to Be Amazing

“You don’t have to be perfect to be amazing.”

I wish someone had told me this years ago. We spend way too much time trying to get everything right. We think we need to look a certain way, have the right job, make the right decisions and somehow look like we know what we’re doing.

News flash. Most of us are making it up as we go, and that’s okay.

Being amazing doesn’t mean you never screw up or always make the right decision. Some mornings, just getting up and finding the coffee is all the accomplishment I can handle.

Life gets messy. We make mistakes. We pick the wrong people. We stay too long. We leave too soon. And sometimes we look back and think, “What was I thinking?”

That’s life. The important part is what you do next. You learn, you adjust, you laugh when you can and cry when you need to. Eventually, you pull up your big girl panties and keep moving.

Stop waiting until everything is perfect to be proud of yourself. Wear the dress. Take the trip. Start the business. Say no without a three-page explanation. Go after something that scares you.

And if it doesn’t work out? Well, now you know something you didn’t know before.

Perfect is overrated. Amazing is real. Amazing has wrinkles, scars, bad hair days, questionable decisions and a few stories you probably shouldn’t tell at Thanksgiving dinner.

Give yourself a break. You don’t have to be perfect to be amazing.

Thank God, because perfect sounds boring as hell.
